Bearcats stand as MHL champions

Tristan St. Gelais scored with seven seconds remaining in regulation to break a 3-3 tie, to give the Truro Bearcats a 5-3 win to capture the MHL MetalFab Cup.

The title is Truro's fifth in franchise history since their inception into the league in 1997, which now tie them with Summerside, Edmundston (Moncton - 1986) and the original Truro Bearcats franchise from 1968 for third all-time.

Pages reflecting these stats will be updated shortly.

Summerside to play in back-to-back Game 7's for second time in franchise history

April 13, 2026

For the seventh time in league history (Jr. A era), a team will play in back-to-back Game 7's. Meaning, a team has gone the full seven games for a series in two consecutive playoff series in a playoff year.

The Summerside Western Capitals forced a Game 7 last night after a 2-1 win in Truro and will be the second time in franchise history the Capitals will play back-to-back Game 7's. In the Division Semi-Final, the Western Capitals and Amherst Ramblers went the distance, with the Capitals winning Game 7 by a score of 1-0.

As mentioned above, this is the seventh time in the Junior A era that this has happened, and eighth if you count the Junior B era.

The Yarmouth Mariners are the only other team to have also done this twice.

Summerside is the only team, so far, to win two back-to-back Game 7's in a playoff year which they did in 1997. Will history repeat itself for the Caps on April 16?
