Callaghan Cup
From 1981 to 1991, the Callaghan Cup was the Atlantic Canadian Junior A Championship trophy. During this time, the MHL (MVJAHL/MJAHL at the time) was not the only Junior A league in Atlantic Canada. The MHL champion competed against the champions from the Island Junior Hockey League (P.E.I.) and in early years the Newfoundland Junior Hockey League and the New Brunswick Junior Hockey League.
The Callaghan Cup was won 10 times by MHL teams:
1981 - Cole Harbour Colts (Cole Harbour - 1976) defeated Sherwood-Parkdale (IJHL) 4-2
1983 - Halifax Lions (Halifax - 1967) defeated Sherwood-Parkdale (IJHL) 4-1
1984 - Halifax Lions (Halifax - 1967) defeated Summerside (IJHL) 4-1
1985 - Cole Harbour Colts (Cole Harbour - 1976) defeated Charlottetown Eagles (IJHL) 4-2
1986 - Moncton Hawks (Moncton - 1983) defeated Summerside (IJHL) 4-1
1987 - Dartmouth Fuel Kids (Dartmouth - 1967) defeated Charlottetown (IJHL) 4-3
1988 - Halifax Lions (Halifax - 1967) defeated Summerside (IJHL) 4-3
1990 - Amherst Ramblers (Amherst - 1968) defeated Charlottetown (IJHL) 4-0
1991 - Halifax Canadians (Halifax - 1967) defeated St. John's (SJJHL) 4-0
(All series best-of-7)
The winner of the Callaghan Cup would advance to the Centennial Cup, or the Eastern Canadian Championship to earn a berth in the Centennial Cup.
In 1991, the IJHL folded and the Charlottetown Abbies and Summerside Western Capitals joined the MHL which put an end to the Atlantic Junior A championship. The trophy was then awarded as MHL playoff champion from 1992 until 2005.
Fred Page Cup
The Fred Page cup was a four-team tournament that determined the Eastern representative to move on to the RBC Cup (Centennial Cup) from 1995 to 2019.
The tournament consisted of a host team and the champions of the Central Canadian Hockey League (CCHL), Maritime Hockey League (MHL) and Ligue de Hockey Junior AAA du Quebec (LHJAAQ).
The tournament was canceled and 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 and beginning in 2022, all champions from ever Canadian Junior A league automatically advanced to the Centennial Cup.
The Fred Page Cup was captured 7 times by MHL teams:
1996 - Moncton Beavers (Moncton - 1983) defeated Dartmouth (MHL) 2-1 in finals game
1999 - Charlottetown Abbies (Charlottetown - 1991) defeated Hawkesbury (CCHL) 2-0 in finals game

RBC/Centennial Cup
The Centennial Cup (formerly RBC Cup) is the National Junior A Championship in Canada. The MHL has competed for the Centennial Cup since 1978 when the league was at Junior A level.
From 1990 to 2019, only five teams competed at the tournament with a host team and four regional champions for the East, West and Pacific.
The Centennial Cup has only been won twice by the MHL:
1997 - Summerside Western Capitals (Summerside - 1991) defeated South Surrey (BCHL) 4-3 in finals game
2002 - Halifax Oland Exports (Halifax - 1967) defeated OCNB (MJHL) 3-1 in finals game
